1. INTRODUCTION
Okay, this is tkwifi 0.1. Maybe it will work, maybe it won't, but you
can try it out and see. For installation notes, see the INSTALL file.
2. VARIOUS AND SUNDRY COMMENTS
Here are some hacking tips, random comments and similar.
2.1 GRAPHICS
The graphics are Fedora Bluecurve. At some point I will make tkwifi
themable, so if you hate Bluecurve, even though I think it looks nice,
just hang in there. If you want to prematurely start making your own
themes, look at the PNG images in the tkwifi distribution:
tkwifi_ap.png The access point on the left.
tkwifi_pc.png The computer on the right.
tkwifi_0.png "No Link" graphic between the access point and PC.
tkwifi_{1,2,3}.png Poor, Good & Excellent graphics for between AP and PC.
tkwifi_ether.png Access Point, Computer and Ethernet cable overlay.
tkwifi_icon.png The icon - Not really used.
tkwifi_icon_configure.png The icon to open the preferences panel.
2.2 SITE INSTALLATION
You should be able to put the PNG images in /usr/share/pixmaps and the
program in /usr/bin and tkwifi will still work. It will also work in
/usr/local instead of /usr. In future releases there will be RPMs and
Install scripts in case that is your thing.
3. CONFIGURATION
The first time you run tkwifi it will present the preferences
screen. You must provide the wi-fi and ethernet device names. Click
the wrench-and-screwdriver icon to reopen it later. You can also use
the preferences screen to set up your profiles.
4. HARDWARE/SOFTWARE COMPATIBILITY
The following hardware and software combinations appear to work with tkwifi.
Proxim ORiNOCO Gold Combocard a/b/g
Old madwifi CVS, wireless-tools 26, Fedora Core 1, Kernel 2.4.22
Feel free to let me know if you have anything to add.
